Made in Abyss is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi. It began serialization online in Takeshobo's digital publication Web Comic Gamma in October 2012, and as of September 2022, has been collected into 12 tankōbon volumes. The story centers on Riko, an orphan in the town of Orth, which surrounds the massive, unexplored cave system known as the Abyss. Riko, aspiring to be a Cave Raider like her mother, embarks on a perilous journey into the Abyss after encountering a robot boy named Reg, seeking to uncover its mysteries and find her mother. The series explores themes of adventure, drama, fantasy, horror, and science fiction, depicting both wonder and danger within its depths. Its notability includes an anime television series adaptation that aired from July to September 2017, followed by a sequel film, Dawn of the Deep Soul, in January 2020, and a second season, Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.
